Help to create a survey about ground-breaking cancer treatment
Nanotechnology is a promising approach to improve cancer immunotherapy efficiency by targeting and stimulating the immune system to kill cancer cells. The treatment uses nanomaterials – which are manufactured at a very small (both 2-D and 3-D) scale.Researchers at the University of Manchester want to find out what people think about using nanomaterials as part of new therapeutic treatments for cancer patients.
-
Nanomaterials have the potential to revolutionise cancer immunotherapies. by specifically targeting the immune system. The hope is that this will reduce adverse effects.
-
A public questionnaire is being developed to explore people’s attitudes about the use of nanomaterials in cancer treatment. The survey results will help to guide future research and communication to the public.
-
You can help create the survey and shape this research by joining two online discussion meetings; Thursday 20th May 10am-12pm and Thursday 17th June, 10am-12pm. If you take part in both meetings you will receive a payment of £100, plus payment for follow up testing of the survey.

How to get involved
Take part in two online discussion meetings
Join an informal online group where everyone will be invited to share their views on the use of nanotechnology in cancer immunotherapy. In the first meeting you’ll find out more about nanomaterials and nanotechnology and in the second you’ll help to develop the survey. Your input will help to make sure that the survey is accessible for a public audience.
You don’t need any special knowledge or previous experience of health research to take part, just be happy to share your views and experiences in a group discussion.
There will be around 6-8 other people in the group as well as researchers from the 2D-Health project team. A member of the Vocal team and a researcher will lead the discussions.
The group discussion is entirely confidential, the names of people who take part will not be shared outside the group. The session will be recorded to make sure we don’t miss anything in the discussion.
Provide feedback on the draft survey
When the survey has been drafted you will be sent a copy to test and give feedback on.
To take part in the Zoom meetings you will need to:
Be happy to participate using Zoom on a computer
Agree for the session to be recorded
Agree to maintain confidentiality
Everyone who takes part in the online discussion meetings will be paid £50 per meeting. You will also be paid for your time when providing feedback on the draft survey. In order for the payment to be processed you will need to provide your bank details. Payments can take several weeks to be processed.
We are committed to making our opportunities as inclusive and accessible as possible. We want to support you to be involved so if there is anything that we can do to enable you to take part please let us know.
If you are interested in taking part, please get in touch via the ‘Get involved’ button below, or email Susannah at vocal@mft.nhs.uk
