Have your say in dermatology research

Currently, there is a lack of representation of skin conditions across different skin types in the resources for medical staff. The current focus on images of European skin types could be having an impact on the diagnosis of skin conditions for people with a wide range of skin types..

Help research to tackle under-representation in dermatology

We’re looking for people from all backgrounds, with experience of skin conditions – in particular, psoriasis, eczema and acne – to contribute to research that will investigate the differences and similarities of the ways that these conditions present in people of different ancestry (countries of origin).

Skin conditions affect in people in different ways and we are committed to make sure that this group includes people from a range of social and ethnic backgrounds. We specifically encourage people who are from African, Caribbean, South Asian and East Asian ancestry and other minoritised ethnic communities to apply to take part.

How you can be involvedYou’ll initially take part in two online Zoom meetings to help develop a questionnaire that will help to gather data about the different ways that people describe their ancestry and skin conditions. These meetings will be friendly and informal, you don’t need any experience of health research to take part just to be happy to share your views and opinions in a group discussion.

The meetings will take place on: • Wednesday 9th March, 6pm – 8pm • Wednesday 16th March, 6pm – 7pm

You will be paid for your time (£25 per hour).

This questionnaire will help to develop a funding application for new research. If the application is successful, there will be more opportunities to take part in in further meetings (a maximum of 4) over a period of 12-18 months.

We’re committed to making our opportunities as inclusive and accessible as possible. If you have any specific requirements to enable you to take part, please let us know.
