This research opportunity is now closed. Visit our current opportunities page to explore available studies.

Make a difference to cancer patients in the future

Researchers at the University of Manchester are developing a new test to identify which patients could benefit from medication to improve how they respond to radiotherapy.

Have your say on new research to help cancer patients

We’re looking for people to have a say about new research which aims to improve radiotherapy.

How you can take part.

Read some information for patients about the research study in advance (30 minutes) and then join our friendly online discussion group on Thursday 30th March 2:00 – 3:30 pm via Zoom.

What will happen at the session?

We’ll talk more about the research study that we’re planning and ask for your views and opinions about:

  • What’s important to patients when they are considering whether to take part in research like this.

  • What information should patients have about this research to help them decide whether to have the additional tests.

You’ll receive £50 via BACS transfer as a thank you for reading the document and taking part in the discussion.

Who we’re looking for:

  • People open to share their views, opinions and to listen to others.

  • People with experience of bladder or prostate cancer either as a patient or carer.

  • No experience of radiotherapy is necessary.

Please note, men who are aged 50 or over and/or from a Black ethnic background are at increased risk of developing prostate cancer. Bladder cancer is more common in older adults and in men more than women. If you identify as part of these groups, it’s important that your views are taken into account and we’d love to hear from you.

How do I take part?

If you’d like to take part in the session, or have any questions, please contact Issy MacGregor (issy.macgregor@mft.nhs.uk) by Tuesday 28th March.

We‘re committed to making our opportunities as inclusive and accessible as possible. If there’s anything we can do to enable you to take part, please let us know.

Will I be paid for my time?

You’ll be paid £50 as a thank you for your time and we’ll make sure that reasonable expenses (e.g. childcare up to £25) are covered in alignment with national guidelines.

An optional £5 remote working allowance is available to cover costs that you may incur by taking part in an online activity, such as using mobile data. If you’d like to claim this allowance, please mention this in your email.
