Help to ensure that local communities are involved early

In Greater Manchester, researchers are aiming to set up commercial research studies quickly, so that local patients and communities can access cutting-edge treatments sooner.

Join a new Advisory Board

The National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Commercial Research Delivery Centre: Greater Manchester (CRDC:GM) is a partnership including Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, the Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust, Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust, Wigan, Wightington and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust and local Health Centres.

The CRDC:GM aims to make research more accessible for diverse communities and patients. To support this, a new Patient and Public Engagement, Involvement and Participation and Inclusion Board (the 'Inclusion Board') will advise on new research from a community perspective including accessibility considerations and how best to work in partnership with diverse communities.

We are looking for 7 local community leaders working with diverse communities in Greater Manchester who are interested in commercial research to join the Board.

What happens when you join

As a member of this Board, you’ll draw on your experience of working with your community to share your views on how best to deliver accessible and inclusive commercial clinical trials.

The Board will meet 4 times a year and will feed directly into the decisions made by the NIHR CRDC:GM Executive Group.

In friendly meetings with other Board members, you'll discuss and advise on whether proposed studies are of interest to your community, how to make it easier for community members to take part, and more.

Who we're looking for

We're looking for 7 community leaders who:

  • Are interested in commercial research and how it can benefit people.

  • Work with a community organisation supporting diverse communities, including those experiencing racial, financial and social inequalities.

  • Work with communities in Manchester, Salford, Bury, Oldham, Rochdale, Tameside, Trafford, Wigan, Wrightington and Leigh.

  • Feel confident sharing their views in meetings, which might include highlighting gaps or issues with proposed plans, identifying strategies for effective community engagement and working with others to find alternative ideas.

You don't need to have any experience of research to get involved. We’re committed to ensuring that people from diverse backgrounds and with different experiences have a say in research. We aim to make our opportunities as inclusive and accessible as possible. If there is anything that we can do to enable you to take part, please let us know.

How we will support you

  • You will be paid £27.5 per hour for your time.

  • We’ll cover pre-agreed expenses, including translation and interpretation, BSL interpreters, carers, taxis, or other services that help you to take part.

  • Induction, training and support will be provided by Vocal.

How to get involved
